Parties and applicability

All services are rendered by Caribbean Lawyers B.V., a limited liability company incorporated under the laws of Curaçao and doing business under the name ZL Attorneys at Law.
These general conditions apply to all assignments entrusted to ZL Attorneys at Law, its partners (or the directors of the partners) or its staff members. All assignments are deemed to have been entrusted to and accepted by ZL Attorneys at Law.

ZL Attorneys at Law requires an advance payment before accepting an assignment and, where necessary, at regular intervals while carrying it out.
Clients pay the attorney fees and any disbursements needed for ZL Attorneys at Law to carry out the assignment. Attorney fees are in principle calculated on hourly rates. At the client's request, other financial arrangements can be made. Clients are notified of the fees, administrative costs and disbursements due through a note of charges. ZL Attorneys at Law aims to send notes of charges monthly.
Clients must pay each note of charges, without any deduction, discount or set-off, within 15 calendar days of the date of dispatch. Failure to do so puts the client in default, in which case interest of 1.5% per month plus 15% collection charges is payable to ZL Attorneys at Law. Where ZL Attorneys at Law (directly or through any escrow account) holds funds in custody for a client, it is entitled to deduct its notes of charges from those funds.

Assignments are carried out exclusively for the benefit of the client. Third parties cannot derive any rights from work carried out on behalf of the client.
ZL Attorneys at Law may, in consultation with the client, engage third-party experts from outside its organization. ZL Attorneys at Law accepts no liability whatsoever for faults committed by these third parties.
The liability of ZL Attorneys at Law is limited to the amount stipulated for the occurrence in question under the terms of its professional liability insurance, increased by the applicable excess.

The legal relationship between ZL Attorneys at Law and its clients is governed by the laws of Curaçao. All disputes arising from this relationship are decided by the Court of First Instance in Curaçao, without prejudice to the right of appeal.
